MONTREAL – A civil trial over the multimillion-dollar estate of late boxer Arturo Gatti will proceed despite the impending release of the results of a private investigation into his death.
A Quebec judge presiding over the civil case on Friday denied a delay requested by Gatti's family. They wanted the trial to start after the results are released next week in New Jersey.
The trial will begin as scheduled on Tuesday in Montreal.
Gatti's former manager, Pat Lynch, says results of a probe he commissioned will refute the conclusion the boxer committed suicide.
Gatti was found dead in July 2009 at an apartment his family had rented in the Brazilian seaside resort of Porto de Galihnas.
Brazilian authorities initially said his wife, Amanda Rodrigues, was a prime suspect in the case. She was released when an autopsy in that country determined he'd committed suicide.
His wife and the Gatti family are involved in a dispute over the boxer's fortune.
